FAQ

Q&A

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

DO YOU OFFER IN PERSON SESSIONS?

HOW DOES YOUR SUPERVISION PROCESS WORK?

Yes! We accept Cigna, Aetna, and Optum-including UHC. We will update our website as we begin accepting additional insurance plans. We also offer sliding scale fees upon request for clients who are out of network. While we understand that being out of network could potentially pose a financial barrier for some, there are a few benefits for not utilizing insurance for counseling services. When you choose to self-pay, a diagnosis is not required to justify your treatment, therefore it is not part of your health record. This avoids having a pre-existing condition on your health record if you ever need to find your own coverage. In addition, randomized audits by your insurance carrier will not occur and your clinician can utilize the best treatment for your presenting symptoms. Self-pay allows you to take control of your therapy journey by collaborating with your therapist so you both can determine how many sessions are clinically suitable for your concerns. We can also provide superbills which can assist clients with insurance reimbursements!

The Key Counseling offers virtual appointments for North Carolina and Ohio residents. We will soon offer in person appointments. Please submit an inquiry form under our contact page to state whether you are interested in virtual and/or in-person appointments. We'd love to connect with you once face-to-face appointments begin!

DO YOU OFFER FREE CONSULTATIONS PRIOR TO BOOKING?

Yes! We offer a free consultation with our clinicians up to 15 minutes.

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

The easiest way to book a new intake appointment is through the online portal on our website. You may also email us to start the intake process.

The process is very simple! Anyone who is interested in seeking supervision for licensing purposes, please fill out our contact form with your program information, level of licensure you are seeking, and approximate number of supervision hours needed. From there, we will be in touch regarding next steps. Please note that supervision is only offered for a limited number of supervisees at a time.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

All clients: individuals, couples, and or families, will begin treatment with an intake appointment. The intake appointment may not feel like a first "true" counseling session. This appointment serves the purpose of collecting a comprehensive view of the client's history. We will also use this time to discuss each client's goals for treatment!
